Variable Chamber Round Baler - Belt Baler

As with all McHale machines, the V6 variable chamber round baler range(belt baler range) has been designed with the demands of today’s farmer and contractor in mind.

This common sense approach to design, ensures that the McHale V660 variable chamber round balers’ operation is kept simple and user friendly. Features like, the three belt variable bale chamber with double drive and the drop floor unblocking system, when combined with high specification components, ensures long life, reliability and a variable chamber round baler that is rugged enough to handle the toughest of crops and ground conditions.
FEATURES



On the V660 Variable Chamber Round Baler the left hand side of the gearbox drives the belts and rollers in the bale chamber, while the pick up and chopper unit are driven from the right hand side of the machine. This system ensures direct short transfer paths and optimal power distribution.



The McHale V660 variable chamber round baler is equipped with a 2.1 metre galvanised pick up which lifts even the shortest of crop. Accurate height control can be achieved through a spring balanced hydraulic lifting system. The V660 variable chamber round baler comes standard with pneumatic guide wheels, which contact the ground on exactly the same line as the tines and guide the pick up perfectly over uneven ground.

The pick up on the V660 variable chamber round baler is fitted with lateral feed augers that smoothly guide the crop into the chopping unit. The pick up features:

  • five rows of tines
  • double raced cam bearings
  • slip clutch protection
  • cam side inspection port for checking/ changing pick up bearings


A crop compression roller is also available on the McHale V660 variable chamber round baler. This roller evens out lumps in the swarth and minimises the risk of blockages when working in heavy swarths.



The McHale V660 variable chamber round baler is equipped with a 15 knife chopper unit. As crop enters the spiral rotor, pairs of rotating tines feed the crop through the chopping unit. The double tines on the rotor ensure high output while the spiral layout reduces the load peaks as the machine works in heavy swarths. The rotor design encourages a uniform crop flow, which reduces the risk of blockages, thus maximising the V660 variable chamber round balers output.

With all 15 knives engaged, a theoretical chop length of 65mm is delivered. Knives in the V660 variable chamber round baler can be engaged and disengaged from the tractor cab. Should a foreign object enter the chopping unit the knives are protected hydraulically, which allows the knives to move out of the way and reset themselves once the foreign object has passed through and reset automatically.



Knives in the chopping unit of the McHale V660 variable chamber baler can be engaged and disengaged from the tractor cab. When engaged, the knives extend into the spine of the rotor, which ensures a consistent cut quality. Knives have hydraulic protection ensuring that if a foreign object enters the chopping unit, the knives can drop out of the way.

The knives in the chopping unit of the V660 variable chamber round baler are made from hardened tool steel, which ensures long life and maximum productivity.



The McHale V660 variable chamber round baler is designed to achieve maximum output, however as baling conditions are not always ideal, uneven swarths can occur, which can lead to blockages. The main drive chain is protected by a slip clutch on the PTO.

  • Should a blockage occur, the sound of the slip clutch alerts the operator who can hydraulically lower the floor from the tractor cab.
  • This widens the feed channel, on re-engaging the PTO the blockage will be fed through.
  • The floor can then be reset and baling can resume, allowing the V660 variable chamber baler to resume its work.



The bale chamber on the V660 variable chamber round baler is comprised of 3 heavy-duty endless belts. The belts are extremely hard wearing and are reinforced with synthetic material, which ensures that the belts can absorb and apply high pressure to the material in the variable bale chamber.

  • 0.7m (2 foot, 4 inches) to 1.68m (5 foot, 6 inches)


The bale size can be adjusted up from the minimum setting in increments of 20mm (3/4 of an inch).



The bale chamber on the McHale V660 variable chamber round baler has a double drive. In more difficult conditions, such as wet heavy grass, if the primary drive slips slightly, the secondary drive will engage to aid belt and material rotation.

The outer roller on the tailgate of the V660 variable chamber bale chamber moves as the bale is being formed, so that it always supports the bale, this ensures that the bale diameter is kept uniform.



The tailgate on the V660 variable chamber round baler is fitted with a set of mechanical locks, which keep the bale chamber securely closed. These locks remain activated until, the preset bale size and density have been reached and the required amount of net has been applied. After netting, the locks release and allow the tailgate to open, releasing the high-density bale to be ejected from the V660 round bale chamber.



On the V660 variable chamber baler grease can be applied to the main bearings through a number of centralised greasing blocks. The following bearings are greased:

  • Bale Chamber Drive Side
  • Bale Chamber Non Drive Side
  • Rotor Bearings (Drive and Non Drive Side)
  • Pick Up Drive Gears


The oiler on the V660 variable chamber round baler is run off the gearbox, so once the PTO is engaged the machine starts to oil the chains. The machine oils:

  • Chamber Drive Side Chains
  • Pick Up Chains
  • Rotor Chain
  • Cam Track



The McHale V660 variable chamber round baler is fitted with an Expert Plus Control Console, which has a large graphic display. From the control console, the operator can adjust the following from the tractor cab:

  • Bale Size
  • Bale Density
  • Revolutions of net being applied


The expert plus console, also gives the operator the choice of selecting a soft or hard bale core, depending on the customer’s feed out requirements. The control console can store 10 totals, it also features:

  • Knife Display
  • Door Position
  • Display Drop Floor
  • Display Lube Alarm



The net tension can be simply adjusted on a variable pulley on the right hand side of the machine and a decal displays the various settings that can be achieved using the system, depending on the net quality being used. This netter is very reliable and features:

  • Endless adjustment of tension to ensure optimum net usage and bale shape.
  • Capacity to take rolls of net wrap up to 1300mm.
  • 180-degree wrap around on the rubber feed roller, eliminating any net slippage while feeding.



Net loading has been optimised on the V660 baler range by the simple yet very effective rock and roll net loading system. The operator simply releases the straps on the spare roll of net on the machine platform and rocks the net roll from its storage position over the lip in the platform and rolls it into the net box. Storage for an extra roll of net is provided on the baler platform.



All bearings are either SKF or Timken made bearings. Main roller bearings are a Double Row Spherical Roller Bearing, pictured above.

As with all McHale machines, the V6 variable chamber round baler range(belt baler range) has been designed with the demands of today’s farmer and contractor in mind.

The McHale V6750 is a semi-automatic variable chamber baler which is fitted with a 15 knife chopper unit and heavy-duty rotor. It is equipped with a double drive system which allows the machine to operate in the toughest of conditions. The double drive system aids belt rotation and bale formation. The machine comes with centralised grease blocks as standard. Automatic greasing is available as an option on all V6750 machines. Net and bale density can be adjusted from the cab through the Expert Plus control console. The machine is fitted with 500/50-22.5 tyres as standard
FEATURES



A Split Drive Gearbox is fitted to all machines in the McHale variable chamber baler range. The gearbox design ensures that power is evenly distributed to both sides of the baler.

The belt(s) in the bale chamber are driven from the left hand side of the machine, and the pickup and chopper unit are driven from the right hand side of the machine. This system ensures direct, short transfer paths, leading to optimal power distribution



Over the last decade, McHale have developed various types of pick-ups. After extensive testing, McHale decided it would offer customers the choice of 2 pick up options depending on their conditions;

The pick up features:

Heavy-Duty Pick-Up

  • All McHale pick-ups feature heavy-duty tine bar supports to ensure long service life. A vital part of the pick-up is the tine, McHale have developed a pick-up tine designed to lift even the shortest of crop.
Efficient Crop Flow Delivery
  • The specially designed McHale pick-up is positioned close to the rotor to improve delivery of the crop through the rotor to the bale chamber. Large diameter lateral feed augers help direct crop to the bale chamber ensuring a consistent and even crop flow for producing high density bales.
Adaptive Intake
  • Over the course of a baling season, machines have to work with different volumes of crop. McHale have designed an adaptive intake which allows the intake area to automatically adjust for light and heavy crops. This avoids peak loads and results in higher daily throughput regardless of working conditions.



The V6750 is fitted with a 15 Knife Chopper Rotor. The feed rotor or chopping unit boasts a heavy-duty rotor and comb. The flights are welded on both sides for superior strength and on the drive side the rotor is fitted with a double row bearing with a long service life

The star shaped feed rotors ensure a high capacity flow of grass into the bale chamber. The flights on the rotors are laid out in a spiral formation to achieve consistent crop flow. As crop enters the rotor, rotating flights feed the crop to the bale chamber. The flights on the rotor ensure high output, while the star layout reduces the load peaks as the machines work in heavy swaths.



To ensure a consistent and even chop quality, Two Chopping Options have been developed for the McHale V6750 variable chamber machine.

15 Knife Chopper Unit

  • The 15 knife chopper unit is the standard chopper unit on the McHale V6750 and Fusion Vario machines. A bank of 15 knives provides a chop length of approximately 65mm.
Knives
  • The knives in the chopping unit are made from hardened tool steel, which ensures long life and maximum productivity, by reducing the downtime associated with knife sharpening.
Chop Quality
  • The knives in the chopping unit can be engaged and disengaged from the tractor cab. When engaged, the knives extend into the spine of the rotor, which ensures a consistent chop quality. A primary hydraulic knife protection system protects the knife bank(s) should it encounter a foreign object. A secondary protection system is in place on each individual knife.
Consistent Results
  • To ensure that the machine always delivers a good chop quality, two monitoring systems have been put in place on the V6750 and Fusion Vario. Firstly, knife working pressure is monitored and displayed on the control box. Secondly, a sensor monitors the distance between the top of the knife and the spine on the rotor.



For over a decade, all machines in the variable chamber baler range are fitted with the McHale Drop Floor Unblocking System , a feature which operators have come to love for it’s simplicity of use and effective unblocking cycle.

As baling conditions are not always ideal, uneven swaths can occur which can lead to blockages. The McHale variable chamber baler range is fitted with a drop floor unblocking system, which means blockages can be fed through in three simple steps.

Drop the Floor

  • Should a blockage occur, the sound of the slip clutch alerts the operator, who can hydraulically lower the floor from the tractor cab.
Re-engage the PTO
  • This widens the feed channel and on re-engaging the PTO, the blockage can be fed through.
Reset the Floor
  • The floor can then be reset to its original position and baling can resume.



The bale chamber on the McHale variable chamber baler range is comprised of Heavy Duty Endless Belt(s). The belts are extremely hard wearing and are reinforced with synthetic material, which ensures that the belt(s) can absorb and apply high pressure to the material in the bale chamber.

Bale Sizes

  • The V6750 balers can make a bale from 0.6m (2') to 1.68m (5’6").
Size Increments
  • The bale size can be adjusted up from the minimum setting in increments of 10mm (2/5").



A heavy-duty drive system powers belt and bale rotation on all machines in the variable chamber baler range. On all McHale V6750 machines, a Double Drive System is fitted to ensure belt rotation and bale formation.

All V6 variable chamber balers are equipped with 3 heavy- duty endless belts as standard. These strong belts exert a high pressure on the bale in order to form a dense bale in the chamber. These belts are manufactured to the highest of standards using layers of synthetic and rubber material to form a durable endless belt with no joins. A single full width endless belt is also available as an optional extra on the V6750 variable chamber baler.

Double Drive

  • In more difficult conditions, such as wet heavy grass, if the primary drive slips slightly, the double drive will engage in order to aid belt and material rotation in the chamber. This double drive helps bale formation as a constant pressure is kept on the chamber belts which results in the production of a solid and uniform bale even when dealing with a wet and heavy crop.

  • A cleaning auger is fitted to the double drive system in order to prevent crop build up and allow the double drive to aid bale rotation when working in wet or sugary crop.
Bale Shape Indicators
  • All machines in the McHale variable chamber baler range are fitted with ultra sonic bale shape indicators, which indicate to the operator via the control console, which side of the chamber needs to be filled.
Mechanical Tailgate Locking System
  • The tailgates on all McHale variable chamber balers are fitted with a pair of mechanical locks, which keep the bale chamber securely closed. These locks remain activated until, the progressive density system reaches the preset bale size and density and the required amount of net has been applied. This eliminates the need for the chamber door to rely on hydraulic pressure when making high density bales.



The McHale variable chamber baler range of balers are all fitted with a continuous oiling system. Once the PTO is engaged, the continuous oiling system constantly lubricates the chains to ensure a long lifetime.

The continuous oiling system on the machine is driven off the gearbox and delivers oil to the following chains:

  • Chamber Drive - Side Chains
  • Rotor - Drive Chain
  • Pick-Up - Drive Chains
  • Pick-Up - Cam Track
  • Pick-Up - Drive Gears
Greasing
All machines come fitted with a number of manual greasing points which are easily accessible throughout the baler either individually or through a centralised greasing block. The following bearings highlighted below are greased:
  • Bale Chamber - Drive Side
  • Bale Chamber - Non-Drive Side
  • Rotor Bearings - Drive Side
  • Rotor Bearings - Non-Drive Side
Automatic Greasing
  • Automatic greasing is standard on all McHale Fusion Vario machines but is available as an option on all McHale V6750 machines. A pressurised system delivers a measured amount of grease around the baler every time a bale is ejected from the bale chamber. Automatic greasing saves time as it reduces the amount of manual greasing to be done by the operator. A lube alarm sounds after 300 bales to inform the operator to refill the grease cartridge.



The McHale V6740 and V6750 is fitted with an Expert Plus control console, which has a large graphic display.The Expert Plus console, also gives the operator the choice of selecting a soft or hard bale core, depending on the customers feed out requirements. The control console can also store ten bale count totals so the operator can record ten different counts that may be associated with different fields or different customers.

A high performance netter has been designed and developed for the McHale variable chamber baler range. This netter is very reliable and features:

Endless Adjustment

  • Endless adjustment of tension to ensure optimum net usage and bale shape
Up to 1300mm
  • Capacity to take rolls of net wrap up to 1300mm in width and 4500m in length (when using the optional 1300mm netter)
180-Degree Wrap
  • 180-degree wrap around on the rubber feed roller, eliminating any net slippage while feeding
Net Stretch Application
  • A simple yet very effective netting system comprising of a moving roller allows the roll of net to rotate as it is being applied to ensure even net application. Net is stretched around the bale using a hydraulic brake.
  • The brake places a resistance on the speed at which the roll of net can rotate, the greater the resistance the more stretch that is applied to the net. The operator can adjust net tension without having to leave the comfort and safety of the tractor cab.
Net Layer
  • The operator can select bale diameter and the number of layers of net to be applied from the control box. The machine will automatically adjust the net application for different bale diameters.
Net Loading & Storage
  • The operator simply releases the straps on the spare roll of net on the machine platform and moves the roll of net into position. To aid the loading process for the operator, the roll of net can be placed in the net roll loading cradle whilst being threaded through the netter. Once in position, the operator moves the net roll tension bar to hold the roll of net in place. Storage for two extra rolls of net is provided on the baler platform.
Bale Kicker Sensor
  • McHale V6 balers are fitted with a bale discharge sensor, which notifies the driver when the bale has left the bale chamber and has passed over the bale kicker. The heavy-duty bale kicker ensures a clean separation between the machine and the netted high-density bale.

Fixed Chamber Round Balers - F5400
The McHale F5400 non-chopper round baler features a star shaped feed rotor to quickly and efficiently move the crop from the pick up into the bale chamber. This maximizes the baler performance and throughput.

The F5400 non chopper round baler comes standard with the McHale Drop Floor Unblocking System, 50mm Bearings on the bale chamber, heavy-duty chains and a continuous oiling system.

This system protects the bearings; when the roller moves in one direction the thread on the seal moves in the opposite direction. This ensures that any material which tries to get into the back of the rollers is automatically threaded out.



The main drive chains on the F5400 round baler can continuously receive oil. The Chamber chains, rotor chain, pick up chains and pick up cam track are oiled continuously from the oil pump, which is driven off the gearbox.

The drive side of the bale chamber can be greased through a series of easily accessible grease banks. The 50mm bearings on the non drive side can also be greased.



The F5400 is equipped with a Wizard control box containing all the functionality required to operate the machine. The control box displays job and machine totals, a net feed and delay functions and also has a lube count alarm to remind the operator to check the oil levels and to grease the machine.



The bale chamber on the McHale F5400 round baler produces a 1.23 X 1.25 metre round bale. The bale chamber on the F5400 round baler is comprised of 18 heavy duty rollers.

This system protects the bearings; when the roller moves in one direction the thread on the seal moves in the opposite direction. This ensures that any material which tries to get into the back of the bearings is automatically threaded out.



The rollers on the McHale F5500 round baler are fitted with 50mm bearings on the drive and non-drive side. Drive side rollers, which experience the most load, are fitted with double raced bearings.

The McHale F5500 round baler is fitted with heavy-duty drive chains and sprockets, which ensure long life and minimum down time.

  • Drive side chains are1-1/4 inch (20B)
  • Rotor chain is 1 inch (16B-2)
  • Pick up chains are 3/4 inch (60H)



A progressive greasing system supports the bearings. Each time a bale is ejected from the machine, grease passes through the respective progressive blocks.

The blocks measure and regulate the amount of grease going to the bearings. This ensures that the machine consistently delivers the correct amount of grease depending on the load the bearings are under.

  • The chamber rollers, rotor bearings and pick up gears automatically receive a measured amount of pressurised grease.
  • The chamber chains, rotor chain, pick up chains and pick up cam track is oiled continuously from the oil pump, which is driven off the gearbox.
  • After a pre-set number of bales a lube alarm will sound reminding the operator to top up the lubrication system.



The cab-mounted wizard plus control box is the operator’s link to this efficient machine.

A new high performance netter has been designed and developed for the F5000 range.

The net tension can be simply adjusted on a variable pulley on the right hand side of the machine and a decal displays the various settings that can be achieved using the system, depending on the net quality being used. This netter is very reliable and features:

  • Endless adjustment of tension to ensure optimum net usage and bale shape.
  • Capacity to take rolls of net wrap up to 1300mm.
  • 180-degree wrap around on the rubber feed roller, eliminating any net slippage while feeding.



Net loading has been optimised on the F5000 baler range by the simple yet very effective rock and roll net loading system. The operator simply releases the straps on the spare roll of net on the machine platform and rocks the net roll from its storage position over the lip in the platform and rolls it into the net box. Storage for an extra roll of net is provided on the baler platform.

Fixed Chamber Round Balers - F5600
At the higher end of the McHale F5000 Fixed Chamber Round Baler Range is the McHale F5600 fully automatic round baler, this is the highest specification round baler in the McHale F5000 round baler range.

The McHale F5600 is fitted with a servo operated load sensing control valve and an expert plus control console, which makes the round baling process fully automatic.

Once the round bale is formed, net is automatically applied; the tailgate then automatically opens releasing the high density round bale, the tailgate on the F5600 baler then automatically closes and pressurises.
FEATURES



On the McHale F5600 Fully Automatic Round Baler, the left hand side of the gearbox drives rollers in the bale chamber, while the pick up and chopper unit are driven from the right hand side of the machine. This system ensures direct short transfer paths and optimal power distribution.



The McHale F5600 fully automatic round baler is equipped with a 2.1 metre galvanised pick up, which lifts even the shortest of crop. Accurate height control can be achieved through a spring balanced hydraulic lifting system. The F5600 fully automatic round baler comes standard with pneumatic guide wheels, which contact the ground on exactly the same line as the tines and guide the pick up perfectly over uneven ground.

The pick up on the F5600 fully automatic baler is fitted with lateral feed augers that smoothly guide the crop into the chopping unit. The pick up features:

  • five rows of tines
  • double raced cam bearings
  • slip clutch protection
  • cam side inspection port for checking/ changing pick up bearings


A crop compression roller is also available on the McHale V660 variable chamber round baler. This roller evens out lumps in the swarth and minimises the risk of blockages when working in heavy swarths.



The McHale F5600 fully automatic round baler is equipped with the same high capacity 25 knife chopper unit and rotor as the McHale Fusion 3 integrated baler wrapper. As crop enters the spiral rotor, pairs of rotating tines feed the crop through the chopping unit. The double tines on the rotor ensure high output while the spiral layout reduces the load peaks as the F5600 fully automatic round baler works in heavy swarths.

Also the rotor design maximises output by encouraging a uniform crop flow, which reduces the risk of blockages. With all 25 knive engaged, a theoretical chop length of 46mm is delivered. Knives can be engaged and disengaged from the tractor cab and are protected hydraulically against foreign objects.



The McHale F5600 fully automatic round baler is designed to achieve maximum output, however as baling conditions are not always ideal, uneven swarths can occur, which can lead to blockages. The main drive chain on the F5600 fully automatic baler is protected by a slip clutch on the PTO.

  • Should a blockage occur, the sound of the slip clutch alerts the operator who can hydraulically lower the floor from the tractor cab.
  • This widens the feed channel, on re-engaging the PTO the blockage will be fed through.
  • The floor can then be reset and baling can resume, allowing the V660 variable chamber baler to resume its work.



The bale chamber on the McHale F5600 fully automatic round baler produces a 1.23 X 1.25 metre round bale. The bale chamber on the F5600 baler is comprised of 18 heavy duty rollers. Chamber bearings are 50mm, with double raced bearings on the main load points to stand up to the most testing conditions.

On the F5600 round baler, the roller ends are fitted with a McHale designed reverse thread sealing system, which ensures that any material, which tries to get into the back of the rollers, is automatically threaded out.

If the F5600 round baler is operating in hilly conditions the operator can choose to control the bale ejection process with the simple press of a button. On selecting this option the tailgate of the baler will open to release the bale, close and pressurise once the high density round bale has been released.



The McHale F5600 fully automatic round baler has a sensor on the bale kicker, which ensures that the bale has been ejected from the chamber before the tailgate closes.



An Expert Plus Control Console, which features a large graphic display, controls the McHale F5600 round baler; this allows the operator to monitor the baling process graphically from the control console.
